Mr. Clayton, the school principal, was proud to be a Medal Bearer
during the
25th Anniversary Rick Hansen Relay
Mr. Clayton joined his wife Christine Hansen (Clayton) and other members of the Hansen family on the 25th Anniversary Rick Hansen Relay as it traveled on March 25th, from Quesnel to Williams Lake, B.C., the Hansen family's hometown. They were surprised when Rick presented the medal to Christine and wheeled the 5 kilometre route with the Difference Makers. On hand providing security for the tour was Halfmoon Bay's own Marilyn Downey who has been with the tour since it was in New Brunswick heading across Canada from Newfoundland to Vancouver, BC.

Job Action Update: March 9, 2012
Please Note:
The teachers of Halfmoon Bay are currently not supervising students in their classrooms in the mornings or breaks. Most classrooms will remain shut until approximately 5 minutes before the bell at 8:15 am. On some occasions, classrooms may not open before the bell. Inside morning supervision will begin around 7:45 am and outside supervision will begin around 8 am each morning. This is expected to occur until further notice.
Job Action Update: March 9, 2012
We have been informed by the Sunshine Coast Teachers' Association that Sunshine Coast teachers feel that they must express opposition to Bill 22 - 2012, the Education Improvement Act, currently before the provincial legislature. Therefore, they have decided on the following actions until further notice:
• Teachers will not participate in extra-curricular or other volunteer activities.
• Field trips that are extended classroom experiences will continue as planned.
• Teachers will work normal work days on days that are shortened for students to facilitate parent/teacher communication. These are Wednesday, March 14th and Thursday, March 15th. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's teacher to discuss their child's achievement.
• Until the Spring Break working "bell to bell": teachers will arrive in time to teach students and will leave after the last bell.

Dear Parents,
The British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) President has indicated in various news reports that teachers will not take further strike action in the form of a full withdrawal of service until after Spring Break. There will be a BCTF Annual General Meeting starting March 17th. There will be discussion at that meeting regarding any next steps that the BCTF may consider. We understand that teachers will continue the current "Phase 1" action that has been the situation since the beginning of the school year. Teachers will continue to prepare, deliver and assess the learning activities in their classrooms.
Please check the school district site for any further developments affecting students on the Sunshine Coast.
Yours sincerely,
Patrick Bocking
Superintendent of Schools
