APPROVAL OF AGENDA

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

OLD BUSINESS

1)  HOT LUNCH

** Rob Kennedy did get a corporate sponsor for MPES hot lunch program. This sponsorship will take effect next year. The total sponsorship is $3000 to $5000, this sponsor wishes to remain anonymous. PAC is not even to send a thank you note.

** regarding the hot lunch cart- there are 2 carts available, we will try to make due until the end of the year with those, keeping in mind that if there is still a problem next year, a new cart will be purchased. It was suggested that the 'new' cart be stored in the PAC  storage to avoid the problems that are occurring this year.

** the hot lunches have already been organized until the end of the year, but if there is to be one more, PAC wants it to be free for the whole school, as well, the food for the sports day event will be paid for by PAC and free for the whole school.

2) TREASURER

Eric Stephan reports: $2000 was put into short term, for easy access/checking transactions, and the remainder of the PAC monies have been put in an investment savings account.  The account makes.75% and can be transferred, without penalty, at any time.

3) SPROCKIDS

Much excitement surrounded this program. Mara Mattson had a meeting with Fred Thorsell to get him up to speed. The subcommittee; Rob Kennedy, Ann Goulette and Mara Mattson, has yet to meet on the subject but are required to present something to the PAC at large at the next PAC meeting in March.  The idea is to have an event which will introduce Sprockids to parents, students etc, create interest, and an understanding of what the Sprockids program is all about.

NEW BUSINESS

SEEDY SATURDAY

Again the Seedy Saturday event must be discussed.  It has come to our attention that PAC is being hailed as a "sponsor" and the direct recipient of funds raised by this event, as well as, the "edible schoolyard" is still being promoted!  Also, it was learned that there is to be an article regarding the above mentioned in the Harbour Speil, the exact wording is not known to PAC at this time.  The issue was discussed, and the conclusion was as follows:  Legal Action is an option.  A mass mail out, to retract any false information/misrepresentation contained in the article in the Harbour Spiel is also a possibility.  It was decided that at minimum, some damage control was needed.   A notice was drafted by the members of the PAC who were present-see attached notice, and is to be sent home with every MPES student tomorrow.  It was also decided that any business that had been approached, be given the same notice, and be informed.

Motion to adjourn meeting:

School Skate
This Wednesday, December 16, the school will be travelling to Sechelt to go skating. We will be travelling by bus, leaving shortly after 9:00 am and leaving the rink to return to the school at 11:30 am. All students must wear a helmet while skating. It would help us financially if students bring their own skates and helmets. There is no charge for this event. Kindergarten students are welcome, but as Mrs. Lansimaki is teaching the Grade 5/6 class that day, all K students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
FSA Practice for Grade 4 students
Every year grade 4 students around the province participate in the Foundation Skills Assessments (FSA). This will occur after the Winter Break. To help our students prepare I am putting 5 practice questions a week on this site. This will familiarize them with the types of questions they will see on the assessments. If your child can't solve one of the questions, have him/her see me. I will teach them how to do it.
Homework Pages
Division 1 students can now access their Math Reviews from this web site. The review is exactly the same as the Friday test except the numbers have been changed. If you have any trouble opening the document, email me at fthorsell@sd46.bc.ca. I will save it in an older version of Word or as a PDF file.
FIGHT THE FLU
Please take the time to read the Fight the Flu article, the link for which is located under the Important Information heading on the left hand side of this page. Let's do everything we can to insure our kids stay healthy.
Inclement Weather
Snowy weather has the potential to cause classes to be postponed. Listen to CKAY FM (91.7) for information. If snowfall is unexpected and significant school start times will be delayed by two hours. This will allow for more snow removal prior to buses and students travelling to school. School phone trees and radio announcements will alert you to any change.
