About Culinary Arts
The Sunshine Coast Alternative School's Culinary Arts Program is a Transition Program for students who are considering a career in the field of Culinary Arts. It is designed to provide practical experience in the Service Industry that closely parallels both real-world and college experience.
The Culinary Arts Program offers students a nonthreatening environment in which to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for either an entry-level position in the service industry or college entrance.
The Culinary Arts Program runs five hours a day, three days a week, for three months. During that time, students acquire certificates deemed necessary for employment, learn basic food service skills, gain knowledge of safety and sanitation, learn kitchen management and health care, cook and bake and prepare a wide variety of food.
Numerous field trips are undertaken so students may experience a variety of food preparation sites. Students are also taken on a guided tour of the facilities in the Culinary Arts Program at Vancouver Community College.
