About The School to Work Transition Program
The Sunshine Coast Alternative School's School To Work Transition Program is a program for students enrolled in Grade 11 or 12 at any of the four high schools in School District #46. It is designed to link schooling with the demands and realities of the workplace. Through employment-related experiences and on-the-job learning, students will receive significant exposure to the workforce and can prepare for their future work environment.
The School To Work Transition Program offers students a non-threatening environment in which to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for an entry-level position in the work force. The program is designed to provide participants with career guidance and employment skills and it supports a successful transition into their first long-term job.
The School To Work Transition Program is made up of course work as well as practical work experience. The course work will have the aim of developing employability skills and the skills necessary to be successful in the work force. The curriculum emphasizes speaking, listening and thinking skills and stresses the importance of personal qualities such as responsibility, self-esteem and integrity. The course work is also designed to assist students in making career choices. The work experience component of the program will be an intensive volunteer work experience placement in one, possibly two fields chosen by the student. Participants will be expected to report to their work placement site Monday to Thursday for the full semester. Friday will be spent in class debriefing the previous four days' experience and examining the course curriculum.
COURSE CREDIT:
Students will be expected to complete 400 hours of voluntary work experience. The School To Work Transition Program is a School Board approved Career Preparation Program. On successful completion of this program, students will recieve credit for:
* Work Experience 11 (CPWE 11)
* Work Experience 11A (CPWE 11A)
* Work Experience 12 (CPWE 12)
* Work Experience 12A (CPWE 12A)
